What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety and Enviromental Manager position at Polymerics?
JOB SUMMARY: Anticipates, recognizes, control and abate health, safety and environmental issues associated with running a polymer business and associated laboratory facilities as well as ensure compliance with all EPA, OSHA, NAFTA and DOT and other governmental regulations as they apply to the company. Provide comprehensive safety training and educational programs for employees at both the Kent and Cuyahoga Falls facilities. Ensure staff are well-informed on environmental safety standards as well as workplace safety protocols. Conduct daily plant walk throughs to monitor compliance and safety conditions. Oversee the documentation and management of injury reports and near- miss incidents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop and maintain Environmental and Safety Programs.
- Manage key elements of the company’s Quality System (ISO 9001:2008).
- Prepare and file all necessary Environmental Reports & Permits (SARA 311/312, SARA 313, NPDES, SWPPP, Air Emissions, Industrial Waste, etc.)
- Develop and maintain a Hazard Communications Plan, Chemical Hygiene Plan, and Product Labeling Plans.
- Conduct all phases of Industrial Hygiene Monitoring including Air, Noise, and Ventilation Monitoring.
- Prepare, manage, and distribute MSDS’s for all Finished Goods and Developmental Mixes as well as those for all the associated Raw Materials.
- Investigate Hazards and Regulatory Requirements for all Raw Materials and other Chemicals used within the company.
- Manage Compliance to all applicable OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations pertaining to the company’s business
- Conduct Safety Meetings, Safety Training and Safety Inspections.
- Investigate all accidents and audit findings and mitigate their surrounding circumstances.
- Keep current on environmental, health and safety regulations.
- Determine freight classification, HazMat labeling, and NAFTA eligibility for all raw materials and finished products.
- Stay current in all regulatory aspects mentioned above as well as specialized regulations involving ADA, FDA, REACH, RoHS, NSF, etc.
- Provide an example of leadership to all employees for quality work, honesty and integrity.
- Manage all PPE, including inventory and budget Personal Protective Equipment.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Interface with local, state, and federal regulatory personnel.
2. Manage all aspects of waste removal including scheduling, maintenance, and waste profiling, waste minimization and cost negotiations.
3. Survey all areas of the business for proper safety and cleaning supplies; and keep them well stocked. Continually seek competitive costing.
4. Interface with Human Resources and Managers regarding any workers compensation claims, and other safety issues.
5. Environmental Health and Safety consulting and technical support for customers.
6. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
7. Participate with the management team to ensure proper cleanliness and housekeeping at both facilities.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education: College BS Degree with additional training in Environmental, Health and Safety areas or equivalent experience. Prefer professional certification in Safety and Health like CIH or CSP.
Experience: Minimum 5 years professional experience in an industrial and laboratory environment, preferably the rubber industry. Prefer someone who comes up through the ranks and know the industry. Up to date on all areas of regulatory compliance.
Responsibility: Responsible to convey a professional, knowledgeable image to customers, the public and fellow peers. It is imperative that all employees see your concern for their health and safety.
Physical Requirements: Able to work long hours and come in on off shifts when necessary. Good physical health to get around to all job sites easily.
Mental Requirements: Very good people skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Continually learn and educate oneself. Problem solver. Willing to work long hours when necessary.
Working Conditions: Dirty/hot and cold/noisy environment in production areas as well as cleaner office and laboratory areas.
Equipment Used: Air, noise, and ventilation monitoring equipment; towmotor and other material handling devices. Skilled in the use of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word software programs.
COMMENTS: It is essential to be involved with related professional societies and maintain current regulatory training.
Pay: $63,284.70 - $76,213.83 per year
