Job Purpose/Summary:
The Safety Intern will provide support to the Environmental Health & Safety department in a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role offers hands-on experience in various HR and safety functions, including training, compliance, and workplace safety initiatives. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and passionate about fostering a safe and productive workplace. Throughout this internship, you will learn:

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Assist in the creation and delivery of employee training programs on topics such as company policies, & procedures, compliance and safety issues.
- Partnering with Training & Development (T&D) to assist with coordination of trainings/orientation.
- Assist with safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
- Participate in safety meetings, document minutes, and follow up on action items.
- Help maintain safety records, including incident reports, safety training logs, and certifications.
- Assist in developing and delivering safety training on topics such as proper equipment handling, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Help track and maintain records of employee training and certifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in investigating workplace accidents or incidents and ensure timely reporting and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with team members to enhance workplace safety culture and awareness through training, signage, and communication.
Skills/Certifications:
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to identify and resolve safety issues proactively.
- Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills to track and interpret safety data, incident reports, or employee performance metrics.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, especially when dealing with multiple safety responsibilities.
- Communication and Presentation: strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively deliver safety training and information to employees.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous record-keeping skills, especially when documenting incidents and training records.
- Safety-Related Training: certifications or coursework in risk management, fire safety, or hazardous material handling can be a bonus.
Minimum Education & Work Experience Required:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Occupational Safety, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Must be a rising junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.2 (transcript and professor recommendation will be required).
- Basic understanding of safety principles is preferred but not required.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
