What are the responsibilities and job description for the INTERN Mine Planning Geologist position at Polycor Brand?
What You’ll Do
Ledge Mapping & Tracking
o Map ledges, faces, joints/fractures, bedding, and structural features.
o Assist with wall inspections and photo/field note documentation.
o Use GIS/CAD to update maps and tracking extraction; assist with volumetrics and standing cuts inventories.
Mine Planning Support
o Contribute to short-term bench advance plans; assist with haul road, sump, and dewatering mapping.
Safety & Compliance
o Participate in daily safety huddles; follow MSHA rules and site SOPs.
Reporting & Communication
o Prepare concise field reports, maps, and visuals for supervisors and production teams.
o Present an end-of-internship project with findings and recommendations.
What You’ll Learn
· Practical bench-scale geology in carbonate sequences and how it impacts quarry economics.
· GIS/CAD workflows for real-world mine planning and materials accounting.
· Safety culture and compliance in active mines (MSHA Part 46/48 environments).
Qualifications Required
· Working toward a BS/BA in Geology, Geological/Mining Engineering, Earth Science, or related field (Sophomore by start date).
· Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and on uneven terrain; able to climb stairs/ladders on quarry equipment and highwalls where permitted.
· Valid driver’s license; authorized to work in the U.S./Canada (as applicable).
· Strong safety mindset and communication skills.
· Ability to lift/pull/carry up to 50 lb samples; comfortable with PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toes, hearing protection).
Preferred (Nice to Have)
· Coursework in sedimentology/stratigraphy, structural geology, rock mechanics.
· Experience with AutoCAD or mine-planning software exposure.
