POLO Engineering, Inc. is a California-based general engineering contractor specializing in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and civil public works projects. We self-perform roadway lighting, traffic control lighting systems, signage, conduit/duct banks, and concrete/cement masonry scopes. The RoleWe are seeking a Junior Engineer to support our field and technical operations. This is an entry-level engineering role designed for someone eager to learn and grow into a Project Engineer / Project Manager career path. The Jr. Engineer will spend the majority of time onsite with the field crew, providing technical and documentation support, while also working closely with the Technical Office Engineer, Project Manager, Project Coordinator, and Assistant Field/Project Manager.
Key ResponsibilitiesInclude, but not limited to:
- Perform field technical verification against plans and specifications; maintain as-builts and quantity logs.
- Initiate and track RFIs; support submittals, testing, commissioning, and punch-list closeout.
- Verify spec/submittal compliance of received materials.
- Prepare and submit daily reports and field logs.
- Act as Quality Control Representative, ensuring workmanship meets Caltrans/agency standards.
- Support estimating staff with take-offs, markups, and RFQs as needed.
- Collaborate with field supervision (Foreman, AF/PM) to ensure readiness of labor, materials, and equipment.
- Participate in safety meetings and ensure jobsite compliance with OSHA and Caltrans safety standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent field experience).
- 0–2 years of relevant internship or field experience (public works or construction preferred).
- Strong interest in public works infrastructure, ITS, and civil construction.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical drawings.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams); exposure to Bluebeam or Procore is a plus.
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to spend majority of time onsite in the field with crews.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to travel to job sites (some night work/closures required).
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
- Hands-on training and mentorship from experienced Project Managers and Engineers.
