As a Senior Mechanical Estimator, you'll be a vital part of our pre-construction department, reporting to the Chief Estimator. You'll also work closely with our Operations Team and estimating support staff. This role is crucial for our continued responsible growth and demands a proactive, detail-oriented professional.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the entire bid recap process, including writing proposals and completing bid forms.
- Attend bid review meetings before proposal submissions.
- Monitor and incorporate all addenda, scope changes, and breakouts into estimates promptly.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding project specifications, scope, value engineering opportunities, and timelines.
- Verify system specifications summaries.
- Lead project page-turns with the take-off team to ensure accurate and complete take-offs.
- Conduct quantity take-offs for equipment and fixtures, thoroughly reviewing project plans and specifications.
- Identify any missing pricing for labor, scope, and materials.
- Review vendor and subcontractor scope letters for accuracy, while maintaining strong relationships and clear communication with all external partners.
- Coordinate the pre-construction interface between sales and estimating to optimize resource utilization and achieve sales and marketing goals.
- Utilize market intelligence to inform estimating strategies and meet current and projected workload needs.
- Develop, monitor, and manage departmental processes to maximize productivity and minimize risk.
- Operate with limited guidance under broad general supervision.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support departmental objectives.
What You'll Bring
- 3 years of experience in mechanical contracting, specifically as an Estimator or in a similar capacity.
- In-depth knowledge of Piping, Plumbing, and Sheetmetal systems.
- Experience with system costs across various applications and building types.
- The ability to provide complete conceptual estimates for design-build projects and budgets based on basic mechanical narratives.
- Experience presenting construction projects during interviews.
- Extensive knowledge of how corporate objectives impact estimating, along with various estimating strategies and techniques for different construction contracts.
- The ability to interpret contractual documents, plans, and specifications.
- Some coursework or work experience in basic mechanical systems and engineering concepts.
- Proficiency with computerized estimating systems (experience with ESTMEP for PVF take-offs and B is a plus).
