Position Concept

The Public Information Officer strategically disseminates information of interest to the news media and community. The member performs proactive communications, operations, marketing, outreach, and public relations duties and tasks specific to the position.

Essential Functions

• Answer requests for information
• Disseminate information to media
• Respond to major crime scene
• Coordinate press conference
• Attend staff meetings
• Assist during disasters
• Request clarifications from News Media
• Maintain news clip file
• Maintain record of assignments
• Prepare and disseminate press releases
• Prepare and disseminate Crimestoppers bulletins
• Assist with social media accounts
• Prepare articles for publication
• Take photographs
• Prepare, and disseminate newsletter
• Assist in development of material
• Prepare supply order
• Attend training
• Prepare speeches
• Prepare quarterly and annual statistics
• Attend community events
• Attend public relations luncheon
• Attend *BOCC/School Board meeting

Education, Professional Certification or License

• Four year college degree from an accredited college or university preferred (marketing, advertising, or communications highly preferred)
• Valid Florida driver's license

Professional Experience

• Professional certifications in social media marketing, e-marketing, or digital marketing highly preferred
• 3-5 years relevant professional experience in social media marketing, e-marketing, or digital marketing
• Demonstrated proficiency in writing and creating engaging content

Environmental Conditions
