Medical Assistant - Part-Time (No Benefits)

Overview

Polinski Medical Associates established private practice is seeking a highly dedicated and skilled Part-Time Medical Assistant to join our small, patient-focused team. This is a crucial role responsible for supporting the physician, ensuring efficient clinic flow, and providing compassionate care to our diverse patient population, particularly the elderly. We are looking to fill one position quickly but may consider two exceptional candidates.

Position Details & Compensation

  • Employment Type: Part-Time (approximately 20 hours per week).
  • Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, generally 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The clinic is closed on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
  • Compensation: The pay rate for this position is $15.00 - $17.00 per hour.
  • Benefits: Please note: This position does NOT include a benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will be the primary support for Dr. Polinski and the practice, with duties spanning clinical, administrative, and logistical areas:

Clinical & Patient Care

  • Patient Intake & Rooming: Prepare patients for examinations, including escorting them to the exam room, performing intake assessments, and taking and accurately documenting vital signs and patient history.
  • Specimen Collection: Perform basic clinical procedures such as collecting and processing urine samples.
  • Pre-Examination Preparation: Ensure all necessary documentation, including recent blood work, lab results, and imaging reports (X-rays, etc.), are uploaded, organized, and available in the patient’s electronic record prior to the physician entering the exam room.
  • Physician Support: Assist Dr. Polinski with patient examinations and minor office procedures as needed.
  • Maintain Compliance: Adhere to all patient privacy laws and standards (e.g., HIPAA).

Administrative & Secretarial Support

  • Prior Authorizations (Prior Auths): Proactively manage and process prior authorizations for medications and procedures, including using systems like "Cover My Meds."
  • Scheduling & Communication: Assist the secretary with making and receiving phone calls, calling patients regarding appointments or results, and scheduling appointments.
  • EMR (Electronic Medical Records): Utilize Athena, Epic and other systems (e.g., Quest Diagnostics) for accurate data entry, scheduling, documentation, and record management. Basic computer skills, including typing proficiency, logging in, and data entry, are mandatory.
  • Clerical Assistance: Provide support to the secretary with other EMR duties and assist with other administrative duties in the office as needed.

Office Upkeep

  • Logistics & Stocking: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment. This includes:
  • Stocking and preparing exam rooms (changing table paper, ensuring supplies are readily available).
  • Managing and stocking the main supply room.
  • Performing light duties such as emptying medical trash receptacles.

Required Qualifications & Characteristics

  • Experience: Previous experience in a clinical or outpatient setting is highly desirable.
  • Ethical Standards: Must possess the highest level of honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness. A strict commitment to maintaining ethical standards and patient confidentiality is non-negotiable. Theft is grounds for immediate termination.
  • Patient Focus: A genuinely friendly, nice, and patient demeanor is essential, particularly when interacting with our geriatric (elderly) patients and those who may be challenging.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with basic medical terminology and accurate use of an EMR system is required.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, the physician, and other staff members.
  • Certifications: Basic life support (BLS or CPR) certification is a plus.
