Company Background
Policy Consulting Associates (PCA) seeks a full-time Research Assistant to join our team. PCA prepares interdisciplinary research studies and urban and regional planning for Local Agency Formation Commissions, councils of government, counties, cities, states, elected representatives and candidates. PCA develops and implements plans and policies for use by land use authorities, as well as provides advice on economic, social, industrial, commercial, environmental and other factors affecting land use. Candidate Qualifications
The Research Assistant must possess strong research, analytical, and writing skills. We are looking for an individual who has great computer skills (proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), is a quick learner and self-starter, highly organized, detail oriented, comfortable with working independently, and able to handle large amounts of information and data. A background in municipal planning and/or local government would be ideal but not required. A Bachelor’s degree is required. This position is remote with the possibility of in-person meetings at project venues around California and occasional in-person assignments. Therefore, the candidate must reside in California. The candidate must supply their own computer; although, we will provide the necessary software.
Position Details
It is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with flexibility on when those hours are worked. The position pays $25-$30 per hour, depending on experience, to start, with potential for raises as compatibility is determined during the probationary period of 6 (six) months.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide research support to analysts and project teams.
- Conduct efficient web research using reliable public sources.
- Review financial documents, service plans, and agency materials for counties, cities, and special districts in California.
- Gather information from federal, state, county, city, and special district data sources.
- Collect, organize, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
- Communicate professionally with agency staff by phone and email to request and clarify information.
- Prepare charts, tables, summaries, and other research materials.
- Draft sections of public reports, memoranda, and project documents.
- Format and edit documents, spreadsheets, reports, and presentations.
- Support projects involving local government research, data analysis, and public-sector services.
- Create PowerPoint presentations based on reports and research findings.
- Provide administrative and research support for marketing and proposal efforts.
- Track research requests, organize project materials, and support timely completion of deliverables.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
