The Police Athletic League of Philadelphia (PAL) is poised to celebrate 80 years of enriching our city’s youth through free, safe, and exciting athletics and mentorship programs. Founded in 1947, the organization serves children aged 6-18 in our fifteen centers and three in-school initiatives. PAL is a unique partnership between a 501c3 nonprofit and the Philadelphia Police Department. The Marketing Specialist role will help develop and execute the vision for how we communicate with the community, business partners, and stakeholders across the region.
Position Summary: The Marketing Specialist plays a central role in shaping and maintaining PAL’s internal and external communication systems. This position is responsible for developing the organization's marketing infrastructure, crafting consistent messaging, and overseeing digital content platforms, including the management of PAL’s website and digital footprint. The role emphasizes system development, strategic messaging, and event marketing coordination across departments.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Systems and Messaging
- Work with the Director of Development and Communications to build organization-wide messaging standards and style guidelines;
- Create content for program, fundraising, and administrative teams;
- Build and maintain annual Communications calendar and strategy;
- Standardize templates and tools for recurring communications and campaign delivery;
- Responsible for executing on all marketing materials, including:
- Print components such as mailers, event booklets, annual reports
- Digital campaigns and asks
- Event materials and signage
Website Development and Digital Platforms
- Lead website strategy, including ongoing updates and improvements;
- Ensure digital content reflects current initiatives, priorities, branding standards and messaging;
- Grow newsletter, social media, and other digital strategy;
- Optimize digital channels for search visibility, mobile responsiveness, and user experience.
Event Marketing
- Design marketing strategies and materials for PAL events including annual fundraisers and community activations;
- Support internal event planning teams with asset development and distribution plans;
- Coordinate event-related outreach across email, print, and digital platforms.
Asset Management and System Maintenance
- Maintain centralized repository of marketing collateral and digital assets;
- Create instructional materials for staff on content usage and brand compliance;
- Monitor campaign performance and make strategic adjustments to marketing systems.
Work Conditions
- Primarily based in PAL administrative offices, with periodic site visits and evening/weekend work tied to major events;
- Requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and digital communication tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related discipline;
- Minimum 4 years of experience in marketing, preferably in tandem with fundraising and/or nonprofit;
- Demonstrated proficiency in building and managing digital systems (e.g., CMS platforms, email marketing tools);
- Experience in content development and campaign execution;
- Strong project management, writing, and collaboration skills.
