The Literacy Coach Will

The Literacy Coach Will
- Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators
- model effective instructional strategies for teachers by working weekly with students in whole, and small groups, or individually;
- facilitate study groups;
- train teachers in data analysis and collection to differentiate instruction;
- coaching and mentoring colleagues;
- work with teachers to ensure that research-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity;
- work with all teachers (including content area and elective areas) on increasing student achievement;
- help lead and support reading leadership teams;
- develop the school's annual Reading Plan submission to the state department;
- meet monthly with administration to discuss progress (review data), issues, and concerns based on goals;
- Help prepare and present board presentations
- serve as job-embedded, stable resources for PLO's that adhere to professional learning standards;
- continue to participate in job-embedded professional development (based on the needs of coaches);
- keep thorough and accurate records and documentation and surveys related to job functions.
- Ability to multitask, manage large projects, and adhere to deadlines.
- Ability to keep up-to-date with current events and technologies in the business and postsecondary sectors.
- Self-motivated.
- Ability to maintain curricular and industry knowledge.
- Ability to facilitate meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge using a variety of assessment tools.
- Knowledge of researched-based instructional strategies that engage all students.

- Certification in the subject area (South Carolina or reciprocity state)
- Power School Experience
- Experience in project-based learning is preferred
- Experience with iReady is preferred
- Willingness to work with other navigators to promote interdisciplinary studies
- Ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g., database and web-based tools)
- Ability to support and guide parents as well as students
- Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques
- Ability to develop effective relationships with pupils, parents, navigators, staff and the community
- Outstanding references from current and former supervisors
- Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report
