Polar Leasing Company is seeking a Shop/Fleet Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our manufacturing and service shop while managing the maintenance, compliance, and scheduling of our mobile assets. This role is essential in ensuring our walk-in refrigeration units are built and repaired to high-quality standards while maintaining a safe, efficient, and cost-effective fleet.
The ideal candidate is a results-driven leader who can "wear several hats," balancing technical shop demands with administrative fleet management rigor. You should possess strong emotional intelligence to lead diverse teams and the analytical skills to drive continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Shop & Production Management
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of technicians, masons, or assemblers to ensure high-performance output.
- Quality Control: Maintain high standards of quality control for all refrigeration units and shop projects to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Safety & Compliance: Implement and enforce safety protocols, including OSHA standards and hazardous material handling (HazMat), to achieve zero workplace accidents.
- Workflow Optimization: Develop and execute workflow processes to increase productivity and reduce cycle times in the shop.
Fleet & Logistics Oversight
- Maintenance Scheduling: Manage the service and repair schedules for all fleet vehicles (e.g., diesel trucks, trailers) to minimize downtime.
- Route & Logistics Coordination: Analyze data to optimize delivery or service routes, reducing travel time and fuel expenses.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all vehicles and drivers comply with state and federal regulations, including licensing and sanitation practices.
- Vendor Management: Negotiate contracts with parts suppliers and maintenance vendors to secure favorable pricing and cost savings.
Administrative & Financial Duties
- Inventory Management: Oversee parts and materials inventory, utilizing Lean methodologies to reduce carrying costs and prevent stockouts.
- P&L Accountability: Monitor shop expenses and labor costs against established budgets to meet financial targets.
- Reporting: Create comprehensive reports on shop efficiency, fleet maintenance costs, and team productivity for senior management.
- Technology Integration: Utilize CRM and ERP software to track service history, fleet repairs, and customer interactions.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in technical service operations, shop management, or fleet logistics.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong background in mechanical systems, heavy equipment, or industrial refrigeration.
- Certifications: Valid Driver’s License required ; certifications in EPA/Refrigeration, CPR/First Aid, or Lean Six Sigma are highly preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), QuickBooks for invoicing, and fleet management databases.
