Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and vet techs ensuring the well-being of animals in our care. This position requires an understanding of animal physiology and anatomy, as well as hands-on experience in a veterinary clinic or laboratory setting. The Veterinary Assistant will assist with various tasks, including patient care, laboratory procedures, and client communication.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures by obtaining basic vitals (TPR), restraining animals and providing necessary support.
- Perform routine animal husbandry tasks, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals.
- Administer medications as prescribed by the veterinarian, ensuring proper dosage and timing.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic or hospital environment, adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Prepare laboratory samples for testing and assist with diagnostic procedures.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their animals' health and treatment plans.
- Keep accurate records of patient information, treatments administered, and any observations made during care.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology to communicate effectively within the clinic.
- Ability to collect accurate vital signs (TPR) for wellness and sick visits.
- Familiarity with animal anatomy and physiology to provide informed assistance during examinations.
- Experience with animal restraint techniques to ensure safety for both staff and animals
- Ability to safely lift 45 lbs
- Proficiency in medication administration methods, including injections and oral medications.
- Understanding of laboratory procedures related to veterinary diagnostics.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with clients and team members.
