POSITION: Vice President and Athletic Director

REPORTS TO: University President

WORK SCHEDULE: Fully On-Site

Point Park University, a private, urban, student and career-oriented university in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh is seeking a Vice President and Athletic Director. Point Park University provides a full range of higher education programs from bachelor’s to PhD to nearly 3,500 students. The University sponsors seventeen (17) women and men’s intercollegiate sports and are currently a member of the River States Athletic Conference of the NAIA. Point Park is currently exploring the opportunity of joining the NCAA, Division II, MEC Conference.

The Vice President and Athletic Director will be responsible for the daily management and long-term planning for Point Park University Department of Athletics. This role reports to the University President. The Vice President will oversee seventeen (17) intercollegiate sports which include: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country/track and field, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s baseball, women’s softball, competitive cheer/dance, women’s volleyball and Esports.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Five to seven years of successful management, supervision, and leadership in athletics. Previous experience in athletic administration, preferably at the NCAA Division II level.

Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Must also have demonstrated commitment to a program of academic and athletic excellence, and experience in fiscal planning and budget management. Strong communication, management, and interpersonal skills are required.

Further, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in the following areas: strategic planning and its implementation, donor development and fundraising, public relations, fiscal planning and budget management, building strong community relations, strategic and business planning, and strong support of diversity, inclusion, gender equity and Title IX programs.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the athletic department aligned with the university's mission and goals; direct and coordinate a full range of athletic department services and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations, as well as conference and institutional policies; enforce and evaluate policies and procedures for department operations.
  • Stay current on NCAA rule changes and updates, and educate staff, coaches, and student-athletes accordingly.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of necessary compliance reports.
  • Promote successful academic achievement of student-athletes by addressing the needs of student athletes (including advising, tutoring, early warning/intervention systems, and other appropriate services available online or on campus).
  • Oversight for the recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of coaching staff, training staff and student personnel assigned to the department.
  • Develop annual athletics department budget; review and control expenditures from athletic accounts. Provide leadership in athletics fundraising.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with alumni, boosters, and the local community and engage in fundraising efforts to support athletic scholarships, facility upgrades, and program enhancements.
  • Coordinate and supervise athletic recruitment efforts with the Office of Admissions and Office of Financial Aid.
  • Work with the university's communication and marketing team to promote athletic programs and represent the athletic department in media relations and public appearances.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs to ensure integration with student-centered and student services programming. Collaborate with various other Student Affairs offices in the implementation of educational programs for drugs and alcohol, sexual assault prevention (Title IX), violence and the “Coaching Boys Into Men Program”.
  • Collaborate with the University’s faculty athletics representative.
  • Responsible for completion and submission of the annual Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act report.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all university personnel and maintain open communication and public relations with students, faculty, staff, administration, parents, alumni, media and community supporters.
