JOB DESCRIPTION: Point One is seeking an experienced chemist to support a contract position within the US Navy’s EOD training command located in San Diego, CA. This position directly supports the chemical, biological and homemade explosive training department to provide knowledge continuity in science, further enhance technical understanding, and enable advanced training in the realm of chemical, biological and homemade explosive hazards. The position is demanding and dynamic and includes work in advanced tactics and techniques that better prepare EOD Technicians who deploy into overseas environments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The chemist filling this position will:
- Assist active duty EOD instructors maintain proficiency
- Ensure scientifically accurate curriculum and scenarios are presented to US Navy EOD platoons in training.
- Evaluate student and instructor feedback on course content, scheduling, and delivery in order to recommend and implement changes
- Conduct technical analysis (i.e. storage, processing, and dissemination) of Lessons Learned Reports, Technology Recommendations, all course critique data (raw and analyzed).
- Use collected course critique data to make recommendations to government personnel for improving future course iterations.
- Facilitate training, i.e. instructing students and facilitating Practical Assessments as well as support to other instructor’s w/regards to the technical aspects of training or operating in an environment with potentially reactive materials.
- Assist the department in obtaining and maintaining divisional professional knowledge library, coordinate with and schedule civilian and/or contracted instructors, communicate with National Labs and NAVEODTECHDIV as required.
- Refine and provide maintenance for existing training aides, areas, and scenarios and assist with technical aspects of device builds and drills during China Lake field training exercises (FTX).
- Conduct periodic surveys of former students and instructors to ascertain utility of curriculum.
- Travel to training sites, national labs and conferences both local and remote that are relevant to the chem/bio/HME mission. Estimate 30% travel time.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Organic, Inorganic or Bio Chemistry
- CPR certification
- Minimum of 2 years working in the chemistry field post college
- Ability to work in diverse multi-functional teams
- Superior communication (verbal and written)
- Flexibility and willingness to respond to short notice tasking on a regular basis
- Strong analytical, systems thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage time and work on multiple concurrent projects/tasks with little to no supervision
- Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred:
- Experience teaching, forming lesson plans, grading, developing curriculum and advising students
- Former lab experience outside of college training
- Experience with energetic materials
- Experience with military or government work, especially related to national level labs and energetics
- Familiarity with the Department of Defense (DoD)
- Security Clearance required for position, can obtain upon hire
