Pohanka Hyundai Capitol Heights is seeking an experienced Used Car Manager to join our leadership team. This position is ideal for a motivated, hands-on automotive professional who understands the pre-owned vehicle business, has strong appraisal and inventory management skills, and knows how to drive volume, profitability, and inventory turn.

The Used Car Manager will oversee all aspects of the dealership’s pre-owned vehicle operations, including inventory acquisition, appraisals, pricing, merchandising, reconditioning, and sales performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of the dealership’s pre-owned vehicle department
• Source and acquire used vehicle inventory through trade-ins, auctions, wholesale channels, and direct purchases
• Accurately appraise vehicles and make competitive purchasing decisions based on market conditions
• Develop and execute pricing strategies that balance profitability, market competitiveness, and inventory turn
• Monitor inventory aging and take proactive steps to minimize aged units
• Work closely with service and reconditioning teams to ensure vehicles are frontline-ready quickly and efficiently
• Ensure all used vehicles are properly photographed, merchandised, priced, and represented online
• Review market data and competitive listings to maintain appropriate inventory pricing
• Desk and structure used vehicle deals while maintaining strong gross profit
• Partner with the sales team to maximize pre-owned vehicle volume and profitability
• Train and support sales consultants on used vehicle inventory, product knowledge, and value propositions
• Monitor key performance indicators, including used vehicle volume, gross profit, inventory turn, days-to-sale, aging, and appraisal effectiveness
• Manage wholesale inventory and determine when vehicles should be retailed, wholesaled, or sent to auction
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels and vehicle mix based on dealership demand and market trends
• Work closely with the General Sales Manager, Finance, Service, and New Vehicle departments to maximize overall dealership performance
• Ensure compliance with dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, and all applicable regulations
• Maintain a professional, competitive, and customer-focused dealership environment

Qualifications

• Previous automotive used car management experience required
• Strong vehicle appraisal and inventory management skills
• Proven ability to drive used vehicle volume, gross profit, and inventory turn
• Experience purchasing vehicles through auctions, trade-ins, and other acquisition channels
• Strong understanding of automotive market pricing and valuation tools
• Excellent negotiation and deal-structuring skills
• Ability to analyze inventory and sales reports and make data-driven decisions
• Experience managing vehicle aging, reconditioning, and merchandising processes
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Proficiency with dealership CRM and DMS platforms
• Ability to succeed in a fast-paced and competitive automotive environment
• Valid driver’s license
