Position Summary
The Music Teacher is responsible for providing engaging and developmentally appropriate music instruction to students, fostering an appreciation for music through singing, movement, instruments, performance opportunities, and music literacy. The teacher will create a positive learning environment that supports student growth, creativity, and participation while contributing to the overall mission and culture of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging music instruction aligned with North Carolina Standard Course of Study and school expectations.
- Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, and music appreciation.
- Develop and implement lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Organize and direct student performances, concerts, and other musical events throughout the school year.
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of achievement and participation.
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes respect, creativity, and student engagement.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to support student success.
- Integrate technology and innovative instructional practices into music education.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities as required.
- Maintain music equipment, instruments, and instructional materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field required.
- Valid North Carolina teaching license in Music Education preferred or ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students preferred.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff.
- Demonstrated passion for music education and student development.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of music theory, performance techniques, and instructional strategies.
- Ability to inspire student interest and participation in music.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs.
- Proficiency with educational technology and music-related software.
- Strong leadership and event-planning skills for performances and programs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and performance spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move musical instruments and equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to supervise students in classroom and performance settings.
Terms of Employment
- Full-Time, 10-Month Position
