Special Education Office Assistant

5 hours per day x 187 days per year, 10-month position

Salary $17.61/hour

Available August 24, 2026

 

This position is split between Pocopson and Chadds Ford Elementary Schools.

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Special Education Assistant performs scheduling, communications, and clerical functions around IEP, Gifted, IST (building dependent), and 504 meetings while working very closely with Special Education Case Managers, School Psychologists, 504 Coordinator, and School Counselors to ensure compliance timelines are met by state standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill, and/or ability necessary.

 

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent with training in business/secretarial field; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  2. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with parents and coworkers.
  4. Ability to understand and meet specific timelines.
  5. Advanced Skills with Word, Excel, email, Google cloud-based technology, use of database management, student records programs, and electronic document management.
  6. Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize and handle interruptions.
  7. Ability to work independently and as part of team; and to prioritize work and deliver organized projects on time.
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including telephone skills
  9. Problem-solving skills.
  10. Confidence, poise, tactfulness, positive attitude, flexibility
  11. Skill with various duplicating and other office machines.
  12. Ability to assess a situation and problem-solve
  13. Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements 
  14. Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations.  To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

  1. Schedule and perform all communications regarding all Special Education meetings; manage meeting calendars.
  2. Work closely with Special Education Case Managers, District Office Special Education Staff, and Psychologists to monitor timelines to ensure compliance with state standards. 
  3. Maintain Special Education student records in the District’s online software.
  4. Arrange and communicate class coverage during Special Education and IST meetings.
  5. Support the Gifted Screening and Evaluation Process.
  6. Clerical Duties: copying, mailings, emails, phone calls, etc.  
  7. Class coverage (Building Dependent) when/if paraprofessionals are not available.
  8. Indoor Recess Coverage (Building Dependent).
  9. Regular and consistent attendance. 
  10. Other duties as assigned by principal/supervisor.

Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)

Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check (Act 34)

Federal Criminal History Record Check (Act 114)

Act 168 Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release:  Unionville-Chadds Ford School District uses an online process for submission and processing of required Act 168 forms. Candidates will receive information as necessary during the selection process.
