The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for ensuring that products are being properly evaluated on the production floor and that checks and verifications are completed for their daily assigned area. Employees in this position also need to demonstrate leadership in plant wide culture towards safety, food safety, communication, quality and customer expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct metal detection monitoring checks according to policy and procedure.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of all coding requirements.
  • Ensure that product and all included packaging meets company and buyer specifications, including documentation of audit process.
  • Confirm packages/cases are within the required weight range.
  • For each sauce/topping/soup batch, check physical attributes to verify specifications are met, including, but is not limited to testing viscosity, brix, salt, temperature, pH, preparation of product according to label instructions, boil testing and vacuum-leaker testing. Adjust mixed vegetable percentages to meet ratio requirements.
  • Assign correct quality grades to processed products and communicate grade levels to production staff.
  • Tag bulk-toted inventory.
  • Document blanch times and temperatures. Verify that documented blanch parameters achieve adequate enzyme inactivation.
  • Inform production and packaging staff and supervisors and Quality Supervisors of deficiencies and issues that need follow-up.
  • Fill out logs with information gathered from metal detection rejects and any other foreign items found on the production line.
  • Pull documents and save samples as requested.
  • Assist in rework processes on assigned line(s) to bring product into compliance with specifications.
  • After training is completed, help as a secondary/peer trainer to review new QA Technician work and support their development as requested
  • Audit/grade outside purchase samples, as requested.
  • Focus on food safety & quality issues.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including non-Quality Assurance Technician tasks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Good attendance.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and any shift.
  • Ability to switch between tasks quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to use a calculator.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, as well as compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to carry out a variety of instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to observe and evaluate product quality using good personal judgement.
  • Ability to practice and emphasize safety to co-workers in performance of all job functions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience working in a food processing facility, especially as a grader.

Work Environment: Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and heat and/or cold. May be regularly exposed to chilled temperatures of 40-45°F. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Requires wearing PPE.

Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Frequently is required to talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and taste and smell. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds or more with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands: Work requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.

Work Schedule: Will require evening, weekend, and some holiday work, and extended hours during production peaks.

Safety & Hazard Exposure: Regular exposure to hazards typical of an industrial environment, including electrical systems, rotating equipment, pressurized vessels, heights, and chemical handling. Strict adherence to safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements is essential.

Pay: From $18.03 per hour
