PNW Veg Co dba NORPAC is seeking applications for a Process Optimization Specialist to join us on-site at our plant north of Salem, Oregon. This role analyzes operational and production data to identify trends, diagnose process inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement using Lean methodologies. It supports accurate data management and develops systems and tools that strengthen reporting, accessibility, and performance tracking. The Process Optimization Specialist partners closely with plant leadership to develop and implement process changes, coordinate cross‑functional improvement efforts, train teams on Lean concepts, and ensure consistent adherence to SOPs, safety standards, and quality requirements. It also communicates project updates clearly to leaders, works flexibly across shifts, and contributes to sustaining long‑term performance gains. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with other facilities, sharing best practices, and completing other assigned tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate operational and production data to identify trends, constraints, and root causes. Map current-state processes, assess performance gaps, and prioritize high‑impact improvement opportunities using Lean tools and methodologies.
  • Maintain accurate data entry and reporting processes, improving the structure and accessibility of operational data. Support the development of user‑friendly tracking tools, performance metrics, and data systems that enhance decision‑making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Work with management and plant teams to implement process improvements and SOPs. Coordinate tasks during improvement events, support communication across shifts, address operational issues during trials, and verify compliance through periodic audits.
  • Provide training and coaching on Lean tools, problem‑solving methods, and best practices. Help develop and sustain standard work, process controls, visual management, and KPI systems that reinforce long‑term performance gains.
  • Clearly communicate findings and recommendations and prepare weekly updates summarizing progress, metrics, risks, and next steps for management.
  • Work across any shift as needed to conduct observations or support implementation, while consistently adhering to and modeling all safety protocols.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of leadership experience in a food manufacturing, production, or related operational environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate data, quantify process improvements, track the financial impacts of Lean initiatives, problem solve, and multi-task effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly to at all levels of the company.
  • Self‑motivated, high‑energy, results‑driven mindset, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as experience working with ERP systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain documentation, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and some holidays as required to support process evaluations or project implementations.
  • Ability to work safely at all times and model safe behaviors for others.
  • Satisfactory results from a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree (AA) or higher in manufacturing, operations management, industrial engineering, business, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience using Lean tools, such as Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), 5S, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Gemba walks, Centerlining, and/or basic Lean Six Sigma concepts.
  • Formal Lean or Six Sigma training or certification, such as Lean Practitioner, Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Green Belt, or similar.
  • Formal change management training or certification.
  • Experience providing group training, facilitating continuous improvement events, or leading cross functional workshops.
  • Experience in multi facility organizations or supporting teams across different locations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish, with the ability to communicate across diverse teams.

Work Environment: This role operates in a food‑processing facility, including production floors, packaging areas, and office spaces. Frequent time on the plant floor is required to observe workflows, gather data, and support improvement activities. Conditions may include varying temperatures, humidity, moderate to loud noise, and moving equipment. The role requires sufficient vision - close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment - to review data, reports, and process performance.

Physical Demands: The position involves regular standing, walking, bending, and reaching while evaluating processes or supporting improvement work. The employee must be able to navigate production areas, climb stairs or ladders, and move safely around equipment and machinery. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Desk‑based work can involve extended periods of sitting. Use of computers, tablets, and related tools requires adequate manual dexterity.

Mental Demands: This role requires the ability to analyze complex information, balance multiple priorities, and make sound decisions in a fast‑paced environment. Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and sustained focus are essential. The position also requires professional interaction across all levels of the organization, including facilitation, presenting, and conflict resolution, along with the ability to remain calm and adaptable during operational challenges or time‑sensitive situations.

Work Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday–Friday with 8‑hour shifts; however, flexibility is required. Extended hours, weekends, overtime, or shift changes may be necessary based on project or production needs. Occasional travel to other facilities may be necessary.

Safety & Hazard Exposure: The role includes exposure to typical manufacturing hazards such as machinery, chemicals, production equipment, and food‑safety environments. PPE required while on the plant floor.
