Duties
- Advise management on employment law issues such as wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and workplace policies.
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment contracts, severance agreements, non-compete clauses, and settlement documents.
- Conduct thorough legal research using tools like LexisNexis and Westlaw to stay current on evolving employment laws and regulations.
- Represent the organization in employment-related litigation or administrative proceedings, including hearings before labor boards or courts.
- Develop and implement policies that align with legal standards while promoting a positive workplace culture.
- Assist with investigations into employee complaints or disputes, providing clear guidance on resolution strategies.
- Provide training sessions for managers and HR personnel on legal compliance topics such as workers' compensation law, family leave regulations, and landord-tenant law as applicable.
- Maintain meticulous records of all legal activities, correspondence, and case files to ensure compliance and readiness for audits or reviews.
- Collaborate with external counsel when specialized expertise in areas like environmental law or tribal law is required for complex cases or projects.
Experience
- Proven experience practicing employment law within a fast-paced law office environment or corporate legal department.
- Demonstrated expertise in handling litigation cases related to personal injury law, securities law, or workers' compensation law is highly valued.
- Strong research skills utilizing LexisNexis and Westlaw to analyze statutes, case law, and legal precedents efficiently.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft clear legal documents and persuasive arguments under tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with a wide range of legal areas including estate planning, environmental law, immigration law, landlord-tenant law, family law, patent law, tribal law & regulations is advantageous.
- Experience conducting negotiations that lead to favorable outcomes for clients or organizations while maintaining professional integrity.
- Legal administrative experience managing case files, court filings, and client communications with precision and confidentiality.
