- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
- Registration as a California Professional Engineer is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience performing structural inspection services for bridges and retaining walls.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience working within Caltrans Right of Way, performing structural inspections.
- Previous experience as a Structural Representative on bridge projects.
- Ensure compliance with construction contract requirements and contractor-prepared shop drawings.
- Verify field dimensions, including vertical and horizontal field control for structures.
- Oversee staff performing daily field inspections.
- Prepare daily diaries and maintain inspection records.
- Review submittals, including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, and QA plans submitted by the contractor.
- Assist the Resident Engineer in responding to Requests for Information from the contractor.
- Verify compliance with applicable regulations, including CAL/OSHA and SWPPP.
- Inspect construction progress to ensure procedures and materials comply with specifications.
- Observe work in progress to assure conformance with requirements and workmanship standards.
- Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes, and the technical adequacy of design and construction.
- Perform general office administration, including report reproduction, collation, and delivery.
- Perform calculations and acceptance reviews of temporary structures used in bridge construction, including falsework, temporary shoring, working platforms, and supports.
- Perform quantity take-off calculations for bid items and verify that quantities billed by the contractor on monthly pay applications are accurate.
- Assist in preparing Change Orders and Change Notices (CNs) and respond to RFCs.
- Prepare final as-built documentation.
- Perform constructability reviews.
