- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Architecture, or closely related field required.
- Professional Civil Engineer license issued by the State of Washington or Licensed Architect in Washington State
- A minimum of ten years demonstrated leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary teams guiding the design, permitting, and construction-procurement of capital improvement projects.
- A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in transit/transportation design.
- A minimum of six years of leadership, budgetary, planning and workforce management.
- A Civil Engineer with a minimum of ten years of experience managing & producing engineering deliverables.
- An Architect with a minimum of ten years of experience managing & producing design deliverables
- A Systems/Communications Engineer with a minimum of ten years of experience managing & producing engineering deliverable
- Manage the task order delivery and will coordinate on a monthly basis with the Design Director managing the Task Order. The Consultant shall provide services associated with management of subcontractors, change management, and diversity goals. Specific items may include, but are not limited to management of scopes, budgets, schedules, project coordination within the team and between team members, and coordination and meetings with the Design Director.
- Provide various project accounting and control services as needed including coordinating and contracting of subconsultants, developing a list of meetings attended, analysis of budget and schedule, and issues and constraints related to the work underway, in order to support planned activities and schedule under the Design Director, the Design Manager(s) leads and directs the design development and supports delivery of projects within the Delivery Team 4 portfolio as assigned, including light rail, commuter rail, and bus rapid transit facilities.
- Manage the design of the project and coordinate with the Sound Transit Design Director on a weekly basis.
- Provide services associated with design management staff; they will work with the assigned Project Manager to align on scope, schedule, and budget; change and risk management; project coordination within the team; coordination and meetings; and project status reporting.
- The Design Manager establishes technical direction and ensures integration across multiple disciplines while maintaining alignment with the agency and project manager goals.
- This leadership role provides oversight and direction of consultant teams and close coordination with Operations, Engineering, Safety, 3rd parties and Quality Staff. Primary function ensures delivery of value and quality of design to fulfill the agency's mission.
- Managing multiple smaller scale transit related designs, including architectural, civil, traffic, track, structural, geotechnical, landscaping, ventilation, station electrical and lighting elements, and directing work teams and coordinating between work efforts of multiple design teams and multiple Engineering subject matter experts.
- Supports the PM in the development of project scopes and cost estimates.
- Administers and manages engineering consultant contracts, including peer reviews, design reviews, contract packaging, schedules, budgets, construction support, and risk assessments.
- Accountable for design support during construction including design contract management, recommendation of error and omission findings, resolution of nonconformance issues related to design, and change management of design related issues.
- Stakeholder coordination.
- Compliance with standards, contract requirements, and safety protocols.
- Requirements management and tracking to ensure compliance with technical standards and processes.
- Promotes quality and safety awareness and adherence to safety policies and procedures; ensures construction contracts comply with safety certification requirements.
- Design Managers will coordinate and facilitate technical meetings to progress project's design development with design staff and stakeholders.
