Duties
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing exceptional customer service at the front desk
- Manage multi-line phone systems, answer inquiries, and direct calls professionally using proper phone etiquette
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and assist with insurance verification processes
- Schedule patient appointments accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth
- Collect and review patient documentation, ensuring completeness and accuracy for intake procedures
- Maintain and organize medical records, ensuring confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with medical billing and collection processes, including coding using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 codes, and processing payments
- Support medical administrative functions such as filing, data entry, and updating patient information in various EHR systems like eClinicalWorks or Dentrix
- Coordinate with clinical staff to facilitate efficient patient flow and care plans
- Handle clerical tasks including typing reports, managing paperwork, and maintaining office supplies
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office environment or healthcare setting with clinic or dental experience preferred
- Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or similar platforms
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and medical billing practices
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and health information management software like Eaglesoft or Dentrix
- Excellent communication skills with professional phone etiquette; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse patient populations
- Ability to review medical documentation accurately while maintaining attention to detail
- Prior experience with insurance verification, Medicare processing, or hospital experience is advantageous
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification in medical administration is preferred
