Overview

The Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer III position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group’s quickly growing Philadelphia area team out of Conshohocken, PA.  We are sharing knowledge, learning, growing, and continuing to be an integral part of supporting PM Group’s ongoing expansion in the US.  Our office is executing cutting-edge projects for Biologics, Pharmaceutical and Cell & Gene Therapy facilities – from feasibility through to qualification – for both local and international clients.  Together with our clients and partners, we will deliver projects that improve the everyday lives of people across the globe.

 

We are looking for an Engineer who enjoys client interaction as well as the technical aspects of the position.  This individual needs to have an understanding of the technical aspects of I&C design engineering. The ability to successfully handle multiple real-time complex project and operational tasks as well as maintain a strong work ethic and drive to deliver for clients as a collaborative colleague are necessary for this role. The I&C Engineer III is mentored by more senior level engineering team members.  Expect project work to include all levels of design: feasibility studies, conceptual & schematic design, construction documentation, and construction administration. Project sizes will vary and will consist primarily of life science industry projects doing both existing building improvements and new construction.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an integral part of the Engineering Team on various projects as part of a multidiscipline project team
  • Analyze engineering problems and offer effective solutions
  • Issue Instrumentation and Controls packages in an efficient and lean manner
  • Mentor I&C Engineering staff at junior levels, if required
  • Conduct peer reviews by checking Process, Automation, and I&C work for accuracy and quality
  • Supervision and coordination of the I&C contractors / vendors - independent contact with vendor’s representatives and project field personnel
  • Attend and participate in client and PM Group meetings
  • Direct and/or participate in project site visits to monitor, review and sign-off Instrument installations
  • Attend and participate in FAT’s at Vendor Facilities or remotely
  • Generation of:
    • Instrumentation specifications and datasheets
    • I/O list and instrument index
    • NFPA and UL compliance 
    • I&C Scope of work documentation and all related drawings
    • Support cost estimates
    • Supplier Bid evaluations
    • Control Panel design, FAT, safety interlocks, emergency shutdown systems, fire alarm interfaces
    • Commissioning / test documentation
    • Cable block diagrams
  • Management of Supplier Design:
    • Control Panel drawings (Layout, Diagrams, BOM)
    • Control Loop drawings
    • Motor wiring schematics
    • Instrument and Control Valve Submittals
    • Commissioning / Test do
  • Review system integrator / automation documentation
  • Special tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation / Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline
  • 5 Years of formal experience in heavy industrial engineering design; preferably life science industry experience
  • Demonstrable advanced experience in the complete suite of Instrumentation engineering design services. This includes (but is not limited to) Instrument Index, I/O Lists/ Allocation, Instrument Specs/ Data Sheets, Loop Drawings, Layouts, Cable Containment, Block Diagrams, System Architecture, Atex/ Hazardous Areas, Clean Room Applications
  • Proficient in the use of Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) & digital project delivery
  • Advanced knowledge of all applicable Instrumentation engineering codes, standards and acceptable industry practices
  • Commercially aware on project execution and change control
  • Professional approach and demeanor with a strong ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection and business
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare written specifications and contract documents are required
  • Ability to play a positive role in multi-discipline teams with a reliable, consistent and mature approach to work
