The Clean Utilities Engineer position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group’s quickly growing Outsourced Technical Services(OTS) team at a client site near Kansas City, KS. Outsourced Technical Services (OTS) is an integral part of PM Group’s ability to support clients across the complete project life cycle. We have over 50 years’ industry experience, strong technical knowledge and integrated resources. Clients look to us to provide experienced technical professionals that complement their project teams. This role will be responsible for the design, operation, optimization, and lifecycle management of critical plant utilities supporting GMP manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience within biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical facilities, with a strong understanding of clean utilities, black utilities, and GMP compliance requirements.

Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for site utilities systems supporting GMP manufacturing
- Oversee the operation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of utility systems, including:
- Clean utilities (WFI, Clean Steam, Purified Water)
- Black utilities (HVAC, chilled water, steam, compressed air, nitrogen)
- Support design reviews, system upgrades, and capital projects, ensuring alignment with GMP and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Maintenance, CQV, and Manufacturing
- Lead or support deviations, CAPAs, and change controls related to utility systems
- Provide technical input into URS, FRS, and design documentation
- Support commissioning, qualification (CQV), and system validation activities
- Monitor system performance and implement data-driven reliability and efficiency improvements
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA, and site quality standards
- Assist with vendor management, contractor oversight, and FAT/SAT activities
- Support routine maintenance strategies and long-term asset lifecycle planning
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering (or related discipline)
- 5–10 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing environments
- Strong experience with:
- Clean utilities systems (WFI, Clean Steam, Purified Water)
- HVAC systems in GMP environments
- Black utilities (boilers, chillers, compressors, etc.)
- Familiarity with GMP regulations (cGMP, FDA, ISO standards)
- Experience supporting CQV lifecycle activities
- Proven ability to work within live manufacturing environments
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone)
- Experience supporting greenfield or brownfield capital projects
- Knowledge of automation systems (BMS, SCADA, PLCs)
- Familiarity with tools such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, CMMS (e.g., Nuvolo), or PI Historian
- Experience working in a client-facing consulting or staff augmentation environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and compliance
- Proactive, solution-driven mindset
