The Information Desk Manager is responsible for managing library circulation functions and all front-line patron assistance to university and community patrons at Plymouth State University's Lamson Library. Reporting to the Reference and Instruction Librarian, the Information Desk Manager works with a highly collaborative team of library staff and faculty to ensure excellent library patron service. The Information Desk Manager supervises a team of student workers that is the friendly, welcoming face of Lamson Library, providing patron services at the library’s Information Desk that includes opening and closing the building, checking out/in library materials and equipment loans, and providing technical support for library patrons.
This is a 12-month, full time, fully-benefited staff position. Working hours will vary and may include evenings, weekends, and during campus curtailment.

Duties And Responsibilities
Circulation Services Management (40%)
- Manage the Information Desk and library circulation functions, procedures, and systems.
- Supervise, recruit, hire, and train Information Desk student workers, ensuring approachable professionalism of the team and mentoring them in a problem-solving approach to customer service.
- Develop and maintain an adaptable Information Desk schedule for 100% coverage of Lamson’s open hours, coordinating coverage for gaps in the schedule and absences and providing students workers with guidance over the phone or Microsoft Teams during nights and weekends.
- Coordinate building operations, maintaining standard procedures for opening and closing the building.
- Submit, track, and follow-up on building work orders, and serve as contact person for equipment and building maintenance.
- Provide reception, service, and support to students, staff, faculty, and public patrons of Lamson Library.
- Oversee library patron account services, developing processes to enhance patron services experience.
- Ensure daily patron record updates in OCLC WMS, manage manual patron record creation/updates, and process public patron borrowing card applications.
- Process overdue and lost items, managing patron fines and billing in collaboration with Student Financial Services.
- Acts as liaison to Pease Public Library and local schools to facilitate cross-library student borrowing.
- Maintain OCLC WMS circulation and reserves software modules and databases.
- Provide technical support for Lamson Library, acting as library liaison to ET&S to assist with maintaining library computers, printers, and classroom equipment.
- Troubleshoot computer hardware and software problems and printer issues for library patrons.
- Manage access, discovery, and organization of physical and digital Course Reserves materials, working with faculty members to obtain materials and collaborating with librarians and Resource Acquisition & Discovery (RAD) staff to process changes each semester.
- Manage bulk item records updates in the catalog each semester to represent current courses and item loan periods.
- Serve as point person during curtailed operations, responsible for working and/or opening Lamson Library according to policy.
- Participate in library initiatives, projects, and other duties as assigned to support the central role of Lamson Library in the academic mission of the university.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree, or two years of comparable library and/or higher education experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service.
- Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Supervisory ability and a willingness to develop this skill set.
- Experience working in a library and/or in a higher education environment.
- Experience supervising student employees.
- Ability to problem-solve issues with technology.
- Knowledge and skills related to working within the Microsoft Office tools and other basic office technologies.
- Experience with library applications such as OCLC WMS and SpringShare LibApps.
