The Plymouth Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Sergeant. We are seeking a responsible, motivated, and community-focused leader to help maintain law and order, protect the public and their property, prevent crime, and enhance the overall quality of life in our community. This position plays a key role in promoting public safety, supporting departmental operations, and advancing our mission of reducing crime and strengthening community trust within the Town of Plymouth.
ABOUT THE TOWN OF PLYMOUTH
The Plymouth Police Department serves a community of approximately 6,300 residents. Plymouth is a regional hub for commerce, home to Plymouth State University, and supported by strong healthcare, dining, and recreational assets. RESPONSIBILITIES
The Patrol Sergeant is responsible for the operational supervision of patrol officers and for ensuring efficient and effective police service delivery. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Providing leadership, direction, and daily oversight to patrol officers
- Deterring crime and promoting community safety through high-visibility policing
- Patrolling assigned areas to protect life and property
- Investigating crimes and apprehending suspected offenders
- Responding to emergencies and a wide range of community situations
- Following all departmental rules, protocols, and legal standards
- Conducting initial investigations and gathering evidence
- Preparing reports and assisting in case prosecution
- Completing administrative duties and maintaining accurate documentation
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with community members and groups
- Coordinating operations with other emergency services
- Attending court and providing testimony when required
SKILLS
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Proven experience in law enforcement
- Proficiency with police equipment and technology
- Comprehensive knowledge of standard operating procedures, judicial processes, and civil and constitutional law
- Working knowledge of interrogation techniques and crime scene management
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and the public
- Sound judgment and strong decision-making skills
- Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities
- A high level of responsibility, dependability, honesty, and integrity
QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants must:
- Be United States citizens
- Be high school graduates or possess a GED
- Be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment
- Have college education and/or military experience (highly desirable)
- Have at least five years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
PAY AND BENEFITS
Up to $41.50 per hour, depending on experience
