What are the responsibilities and job description for the Entry-Level Multi-Trade Helper / Technician Helper position at Plumber In A Box?
Entry Level Multi-Trades Helper – Plumbing, HVAC, Handyman & Groundskeeping
Starting Pay: $17.00 per hour
Typical Schedule: 30–40 hours per week
Hours may range approximately 25–50 hours per week depending on workload
Plumber In A Box/Box Advantage Group is looking for a dependable, mechanically minded individual to join our team as a Multi-Trade Helper / Entry-Level Trades Helper.
This is an entry-level position. No professional trade experience is required.
We are willing to teach the right person.
What matters most to us is your work ethic, mechanical ability, willingness to learn, ability to follow instructions, and ability to retain what you are taught.
This is not a position where you will perform the same type of work every day. You will work alongside a lead technician on jobs involving plumbing, HVAC, handyman services, property maintenance, and groundskeeping.
WHAT YOU WILL HELP WITH
Depending on the work scheduled that day, you may assist with:
- Plumbing service and repairs
- HVAC service, maintenance, and installation-related work
- Handyman and property repairs
- Fixture and appliance replacement
- Preventative maintenance
- Groundskeeping and exterior property maintenance
- Landscaping and outdoor work
- Digging and excavation
- Material and equipment handling
- Jobsite setup and cleanup
- Loading and unloading tools, equipment, and materials
- Basic troubleshooting and repair
- Other service and maintenance work as needed
Some days may be primarily plumbing. Another day may involve HVAC, property repairs, groundskeeping, or a combination of several types of work.
You do not need to know how to do all of these things when you start. You do need to be willing and able to learn them.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Experience is not required, but the right attitude and work ethic are.
We are looking for someone who:
- Shows up when scheduled and arrives on time
- Is mechanically inclined or naturally good at figuring out how things work
- Enjoys working with tools and equipment
- Can listen to instructions and follow directions
- Learns new tasks and retains what they are taught
- Is willing to ask questions when necessary
- Can think through problems instead of requiring constant direction
- Takes pride in doing a job correctly
- Respects customers and their property
- Works safely and responsibly
- Is comfortable working indoors and outdoors
- Is willing to get dirty when the job requires it
- Is willing to crawl under houses, dig, carry materials, clean jobsites, and perform physical work
- Can gradually take on more responsibility as their skills improve
- Wants to learn several trades instead of being limited to one type of work
We are looking for someone who can start by working closely with our lead technician and, as they learn, become increasingly capable of performing appropriate tasks with less supervision.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
We would rather hire someone with little or no professional experience who:
- Wants to learn
- Shows up
- Pays attention
- Takes direction
- Remembers what they are taught
- Works hard
- Takes pride in their work
than someone with experience who is unwilling to learn or adapt.
Previous experience with tools, automotive work, farming, construction, maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, landscaping, groundskeeping, or other hands-on work is a plus, but it is not required.
SKILL-BASED PAY GROWTH
Starting pay is $17.00 per hour.
Raises are skill-based, not simply time-based.
We do not believe someone should have to wait six months or a year just for the possibility of earning more.
As you learn additional skills, become more productive, take on greater responsibility, and demonstrate that you can correctly perform more tasks with less supervision, you can become eligible for increased pay.
The more you learn, the more you can earn.
Pay growth may be based on:
- Skills learned
- Quality of work
- Ability to perform tasks correctly
- Ability to retain training
- Ability to work with less supervision
- Productivity
- Responsibility
- Honesty
- Reliability
- Overall value brought to the team
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
When you first start, you will work closely with the lead technician and receive instruction on the work being performed.
As you are taught tools, procedures, techniques, and individual tasks, we expect you to retain that knowledge and gradually require less supervision.
Our goal is to develop someone who can:
- Be shown how to perform a task correctly.
- Understand why it is being done that way.
- Remember how to perform it.
- Complete the task again with limited instruction.
- Eventually perform appropriate work independently while continuing to work effectively with the lead technician.
We are not simply looking for someone to carry tools or ride along.
We are looking for someone who wants the opportunity to become a skilled, versatile tradesperson.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is a hands-on service and trade position.
Applicants should be able to perform physical work that may include:
- Lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and materials
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Bending, kneeling, crawling, and digging

- Working in crawl spaces and confined areas

- Working outdoors in heat, cold, and other weather conditions
- Working around dirt, mud, dust, and normal jobsite conditions
- Performing repetitive physical tasks when required
- Helping move equipment and materials
- Someone who pays attention to their surroundings and jobsite dangers
HOURS & SCHEDULING
