About Us:
Plumas Crisis Intervention & Resource Center (PCIRC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the rural, frontier communities of Plumas and Sierra Counties in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California. Our mission is to function as a safety net provider of countywide services that offers individuals and families the opportunity to live to their own potential and be treated with dignity and respect. Now in our 40th year, we serve the area’s most vulnerable populations through crisis intervention, shelter, substance use disorder services, and housing support.
Position Overview:
The Receptionist is the first point of contact for everyone who walks through our doors or calls our center. You’ll be greeting clients in crisis, answering the phones, helping people navigate our services, and keeping the front office running smoothly. We’re looking for someone who is calm under pressure, genuinely compassionate, and organized enough to manage a busy front desk in a nonprofit environment where no two days look the same.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the first point of contact for clients, visitors, and callers, providing a warm, professional, and trauma-informed welcome
- Assist clients with completing intake forms and provide information about PCIRC’s services
- Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming waiting area
- Schedule and coordinate client appointments, ensuring timely and efficient flow
- Support general front office functions including filing, data entry, and correspondence
- Collaborate with program staff to connect clients with the right services and referrals
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong active listening skills and the ability to remain calm in high-stress situations
- Compassion, empathy, and a genuine commitment to serving individuals in crisis
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency with basic office equipment and software
Preferred:
- Experience in a crisis center, counseling center, social services agency, or similar setting
- Familiarity with crisis intervention protocols or trauma-informed care principles
- Experience with scheduling or case management software
- Bilingual English/Spanish
