Job Overview:
Plum Creek Assisted Living is seeking a hands-on, resident-focused Dietary Services Manager to oversee daily kitchen operations and ensure a high-quality dining experience for our residents. This role combines leadership, organization, food service management, and meaningful interaction with residents and staff.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and passionate about food service, with a strong ability to lead a team, maintain compliance, and create a positive dining environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Kitchen Operations & Food Service
- Oversee daily meal service to ensure quality, presentation, and timeliness of all meals
- Ensure all meals follow approved menus, dietary requirements, and portion standards
- Assist with cooking and meal preparation as needed
- Monitor food temperatures, sanitation, and safe food handling practices
- Coordinate and execute special meals, events, and resident dining experiences
Menu, Recipes & Dining Experience
- Record and communicate all menu changes
- Create, adjust, and maintain recipes and standardized portions
- Work with dietary team to ensure consistency in food preparation
- Plan and oversee food for resident birthday parties and special events
- Lead or assist with cooking activities alongside residents
Inventory & Supply Management
- Take inventory of all kitchen supplies, food, and materials
- Coordinate with Housekeeping and Nursing to ensure shared supply needs are met
- Order supplies within approved budgets
- Maintain organization and proper storage of all inventory
Staff Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise dietary staff including cooks, aides, and servers
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling
- Conduct and track employee evaluations
- Manage call-offs and ensure proper staffing coverage
- Assign and manage server sections for efficient dining room service
- Lead daily huddles to keep staff informed, trained, and aligned
Compliance, Safety & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with health department, state regulations, and facility policies
- Maintain all required kitchen documentation, logs, and records
- Keep required paperwork organized (phone lists, server pads, meal tickets, section assignments, etc.)
- Ensure proper sanitation, infection control, and food safety standards are followed at all times
Resident Engagement
- Maintain a visible, approachable presence in the dining room and kitchen
- Interact daily with residents in a friendly, respectful manner
- Gather feedback to improve dining services and overall satisfaction
- Support resident activities, events, and special dining experiences
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with Administration, Nursing, Activities, and Housekeeping teams
- Communicate dietary needs, concerns, and updates effectively
- Address resident, family, and staff concerns professionally
- Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
On-Call & Emergency Response
- Participate in an on-call rotation to address dietary or kitchen-related emergencies
- Respond to urgent issues that impact meal service or resident safety
- Ensure continuity of food service operations during unexpected situations
Problem Solving & Equipment Maintenance
- Troubleshoot and resolve staff and operational challenges within the dietary department
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on kitchen equipment including coffee machines, soda machines, and dishwashers
- Report and coordinate repairs for larger equipment issues
Other Duties
- Attend staff meetings and required trainings
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience & Skills
- Prior food service or dietary experience required
- Assisted living, nursing home, or healthcare dietary experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations
- Leadership and team management experience preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills
- Fluent in English

- Genuine interest in working with the senior population
Pay: $54,000.00 - $64,000.00 per year
