Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, the RA will provide direct nursing care. They are responsible for many resident care tasks to ensure that each resident receives the comprehensive and personalized care they need.
Physical, Emotional and Interpersonal Requirements:
The employee must be able to:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Clearly speak and write the English language
- See, hear or use prosthetic devices to enable use of the senses adequately.
- Sit, stand, bend, stoop, and move for extended periods of time.
- Use hands and fingers to operate equipment.
- Lift, move, push or pull a minimum of 20 pounds
- Maintain good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
- Relate to, communicate and work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset and, possibly hostile people within the facility.
- Deal with frequent interruptions and some stressful situations.
- Assist in evacuation of elders during emergency situations.
- Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
- Work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
Essential Functions (with or without reasonable accommodations):
The following job functions have been determined as essential to the position of RA at Pleasant View Home. Provide assistance to residents based on evidence-based best practice per each resident’s comprehensive care plan that is not considered direct hands on medical care, such as:
- Assist residents who are using a wheel chair to move to various areas of the facility.
- Assist with activities planned for the residents.
- Straighten residents’ rooms with permission by resident by making their bed and arranging personal possessions in closets and drawers.
- Clean resident equipment and stock resident supplies.
- Serve water to residents.
- Take meal orders and deliver meals to resident rooms.
- Assist residents with eating, when directed.
- Accompany residents on field trips.
- Assist with documentation, as directed.
- Assist with the care of pets living within the facility.
- Perform light housekeeping.
- Sit with residents who are ill, anxious, at risk for falls, or as directed by supervisor.
- Follow all Infection Prevention and Control procedures.
- Identify potential problems/issues/changes regarding residents; report to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Complete compliance training requirements and continuing education provided.
- Support facility goals and objectives.
- The employee may be requested to perform other duties or tasks that are not listed but are within the competence and training of the individual, and considered a reasonable extension of this position.
Marginally Essential Functions
- Document observed data on flow sheets, notes and charts in an informative and descriptive manner.
- Introduce newly admitted or newly transferred residents to other residents and to co-workers as appropriate.
- Assist residents in preparing for activity and social programs.
- Assist with caring for resident’s eyeglasses, hearing aids, prostheses, etc.
- Assist and direct visitors as appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Applicants and employees will have graduated from an approved Certified Nurse Aide/Restorative Aide program or be eligible to enter such a program and graduate and pass a state-approved competency evaluation within 120 days from the date of employment.
Experience Preferred:
The facility prefers a Restorative Aide to have six (6) months experience working in a nursing home, hospital, home health agency, or other health care facility.
