YOUR DAY:
As our full-time Apprentice Construction Utilities Tech I, you'll support Pleasant View's water, sewer, and solid waste systems-handling main line repairs, meter reading, blue staking, and data collection while also assisting with hydrants, meters, piping, and garbage or recycling containers. Work orders, minor facility maintenance, and water service connections or disconnections naturally weave into your day as you help keep infrastructure reliable. Equipment becomes familiar quickly, from dump trucks, backhoes, and snowplows to tractors, pickups, mowers, and a wide range of hand and power tools, along with routine lubrication and minor equipment repairs. You'll also set up traffic control devices, transport materials like sand, salt, gravel, dirt, and road base, and assist with snow removal whenever the city needs it.
This entry-level position includes participation in an after-hours on-call rotation and being subject to emergency after-hours duties, especially during weather events and urgent utility needs.
THE QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Utah driver's license
- Current CDL or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools
- Knowledge of basic practices and methods for pipeline repair and construction
- Knowledge of common job-site hazards and safety practices
- Physical ability to lift 50-75 pounds and work in various weather conditions
- Ability to perform routine job tasks, such as mowing, weed maintenance, etc.
- Ability to be on-call when assigned
- Ability to learn quickly and work in fast-paced environments
- Strong communication skills, problem-solving initiative, and a team-first mindset
