Pleasant Valley Youth Ranch is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Professional (Counselor or Therapist) to join our team. As a Mental Health Professional, you will play a crucial role in providing guidance, support, and education to youth in need. This position requires experience in social work, psychology, mentoring, youth development, and/or special education.
***This position requires a master's level of education in a degree related to the Human Services Field and current certifications and licensures through the state of Wisconsin to conduct counseling/therapy sessions. ***
During the school year, afternoon availability is required.
Horse experience and knowledge highly recommended but not required.
As a Mental Health Professional, you will provide skills development and equine therapy services to participants ages 6-18 enrolled in the CCS (Comprehensive Community Services) program in Eau Claire, Chippewa, Dunn, and Trempealeau Counties. These equine therapy sessions would be conducted alongside a certified Equine Specialist. The Mental Health Professional and Equine Specialist conduct therapy sessions with an Equine Team Member to assist youth in overcoming mental health and behavioral challenges. CCS is a voluntary psychosocial rehabilitation program that provides services to county residents coping with mental health and/or substance use conditions. You will work on your participants’ mental health goal(s) by engaging in fun and educational activities at the ranch with an Equine and Equine Specialist alongside you.
We are interested in applicants who can work at least 10 hours a week up to 40 hours/week. This is a 1099 contractor position, so hours and schedule are extremely flexible.
Duties:
- Educate and guide individuals in overcoming challenges and achieving personal growth
- Provide in-person equine therapy sessions to address mental health and behavioral goals & challenges. (Equine Specialist, Equine, Mental Health Professional & Client)
- Assist in developing personalized treatment plans and goals for everyone involved in the equine therapy sessions
- Assist youth in developing positive life skills
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as mental health professionals, service facilitators and social workers, to ensure comprehensive care
- Attend meetings with youth’s recovery team to discuss progress, challenges, and the treatment plan:
- Monitor progress, update service team and adjust treatment plans as needed
- Maintain accurate and confidential records & notes of all interactions
- Attend monthly supervision meetings to discuss each participant unique situations & challenges being faced with a licensed therapist for feedback and guidance
Experience:
- Previous experience in Psychology, Social Work & Special Education or related field is required.
- Experience working or volunteering with children or adolescents is recommended.
- Strong conflict management skills to effectively handle challenging situations
- Knowledge of concepts such as social work, psychology, mental health, youth development, and/or special education
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
