POSITION: Facilities and Operations Supervisor/Director

 

LOCATION: Pleasant Hill School District

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $87,000 to $108,000, depending on experience and internal equity, plus a generous benefit plan including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a cell phone stipend, 6% district-paid PERS benefit, paid leave (vacation, sick and personal), and district vehicle.

Pleasant Hill is located in Lane County, just 15 minutes from the University of Oregon, extensive shopping and dining opportunities, and major medical services. ABOUT THE POSITION: Pleasant Hill School District is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Operations Lead to lead districtwide facilities, maintenance, custodial operations and safety systems.

                                   

This position ensures safe, compliant, efficient and well-maintained learning environments and serves as the district lead for building security systems, emergency response coordination and liaison to contracted transportation services, inclement weather monitoring and snow route decision support.

 

This is a high-paced, high-demand and interruption-driven leadership role requiring strong judgement, adaptability and communication skills.

 

This position is critical to ensuring safe and compliant facilities, continuity of operations, effective emergency response and strong stewardship of district resources.

                            

This position is a full-time, 12-month position (260 days). On-call availability is essential for emergencies and urgent facility needs. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Facilities & Maintenance Leadership

  • Direct and oversee all district facilities maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance programs
  • Supervise and evaluate custodial and maintenance staff
  • Lead recuitment, hiring, onboarding and retention of direct-report staff
  • Maintain buildings, grounds, equipment and infrastructure to high operational standards
  • Develop and implement long-range maintenance and capital improvement planning

 

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including OSHA, DEQ, EPA (including water systems), asbestos and hazardous materials, Oregon Fire Code, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Coordinate inspections, documentation and reporting
  • Maintain certifications or ensure access to required licensed services

 

Safety, Security & Emergency Services

  • Oversee all building security systems including access control systems, key and lock systems, and alarm systems (Sonitrol monitoring and response coordination)
  • Lead district facility-related emergency response efforts
  • Participate in district safety planning and incident response

 

Transportation Liaison & Weather Monitoring

  • Serve as district liaison to First Student (contracted transportation provider)
  • Coordinate communication and operational alignment with transportation services
  • Monitor weather and road conditions to support inclement weather and snow route decisions
  • Provide recommendation to district leadership during weather events

 

Systems & Operational Management

  • Oversee building automation systems, security systems and equipment and vehicle maintenance systems
  • Maintain accurate inventories, documentation and system records

 

Budgeting, Procurement & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage facilities and maintenance budgets
  • Oversee purchasing, vendor contracts and inventory systems
  • Ensure compliance with public procurement requirement and district policy
  • Evaluate bids, proposal and vendor performance

 

Coordination & District Support

  • Support (but do not lead) coordinator of facility use and district events
  • Provide logistical support for district operation and activities
  • Collaborate with school and district leadership to meet operational needs

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrate experience in facilities management, maintenance supervision or related field
  • Experience supervising staff, including recruitment and retention of employees
  • Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural), preventative maintenance systems, safety and regulatory compliance and public procurement processes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-interruption, fast-paced environment

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant certifications (or ability to obtain), such as water system certification, EPA, refrigeration, asbestos/hazardous materials and pesticide/IPM certification
  • Experience with school district operations, building automation systems, security and alarm monitoring systems and contracted service providers

  • Strong understanding of facilities systems and regulatory environments
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-demand, high-interruption environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and respond to urgent situations
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, vendors and contractors
