General Purpose
The successful candidate for this position will provide library services to all ages. Duties include reference work, circulating materials, and other special projects.
Functions and Duties
- Provides reference and reader's advisory services to library patrons.
- Creates and maintains displays to highlight book collections or services.
- Performs circulation tasks using library software, such as checking in materials, collecting fines, preparing library cards, and other duties as necessary.
- Assists patrons with the use of library technology such as printing and using self-check machines.
- Provides excellent customer service.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- High school degree or equivalent required
- A four-year degree from an accredited college or university in the social sciences, humanities or a related field preferred
Experience:
- Some professional training in library work, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, OR current work on a Master's Degree in Library and Information Sciences.
Skills/Abilities
- Some knowledge of books preferred.
- Some knowledge of the principles and practices of public library function.
- Some knowledge of reference tools and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of patron needs and the ability to provide what is needed.
- Strong oral and written communication ability.
- Some ability to develop and present public information materials to promote library use.
- Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, and the general public.
- Some Spanish language skills preferred.
- Some knowledge of basic office software and general technology required.
Working Conditions

- Work is typically performed in an air-conditioned office.
- Must be able to bend and stoop and reach high places.
- Must be able to stand and move for long periods of time.
