Job Summary
As Child Care Center Director, you will oversee daily operations, drive enrollment, and ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for every child in our care. You’ll lead a team of teachers and support staff, implement strong curriculum plans, and build trusted relationships with families and the community.
Most importantly, you must be highly familiar with New York State OCFS rules and regulations and be able to keep the program fully compliant at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and supervise staff (teachers & support personnel) while ensuring full compliance with OCFS licensing rules, health and safety standards, and internal policies.
- Develop and implement curriculum plans that support developmental growth, social–emotional learning, and school readiness.
- Oversee daily center operations: enrollment, scheduling, ratios, classroom coverage, and maintaining a safe, organized environment.
- Market and enroll students on an ongoing basis through tours, parent follow-ups, community outreach, and social media support.
- Build strong relationships with children, families, and community partners to increase trust, retention, and word-of-mouth referrals.
- Ensure all OCFS-related documentation, inspections, and requirements are up-to-date and audit-ready.
- Coordinate staff training and professional development to maintain high-quality care and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records for attendance, incidents, licensing documentation, subsidy paperwork, and program evaluations.
- Lead promotional efforts to attract new families and keep classrooms full and thriving.
Must Have: Demonstrated experience working within New York State OCFS rules and regulations, including licensing, compliance, and inspections.Skills & Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred (Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education Administration, or related field).
- Minimum required childcare credits in accordance with OCFS guidelines (or clear plan to meet them).
- Proven experience in education administration, childcare management, or leading early childhood programs.
- Experience working directly with young children is essential.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and hold staff accountable.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with children, parents, staff, and community partners.
- Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple responsibilities, deadlines, and OCFS documentation.
- Solid working knowledge of childcare licensing regulations and best practices in early childhood education, especially OCFS requirements.
