The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for infants and toddlers. This role helps implement daily routines, encourages children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development, and maintains a positive, caring classroom atmosphere while ensuring the health and safety of all children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom activities and routines.
  • Provide attentive, responsive care to infants and toddlers throughout the day.
  • Support age-appropriate learning experiences through play, music, reading, sensory activities, and exploration.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, meals, naps, and transitions.
  • Assist with diapering, toileting, feeding, and other personal care needs while following health and sanitation guidelines.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and model respectful behavior.
  • Observe children's development and communicate relevant information to the Lead Teacher.
  • Help prepare classroom materials and learning centers.
  • Maintain accurate records as required, including attendance and daily reports.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and fellow staff members.
  • Follow all licensing regulations, school policies, and health and safety procedures.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working with infants or toddlers in a childcare or early childhood setting preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry children up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to actively engage with children both indoors and outdoors.

This position plays an essential role in creating a warm, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate environment where infants and toddlers feel safe, loved, and supported as they grow and learn.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
