Position Overview:** Platypus Marine, Inc. is seeking a **Marine Carpenter** to construct, repair, and install wooden components on a variety of vessels. This role involves working with both hand and power tools, reading technical drawings, selecting and shaping materials, and applying finishes. You will collaborate with a team of professionals in a dynamic shipyard environment, ensuring high-quality craftmanship while adhering to safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Construct, repair, and install wooden structures, cabinetry, and interior/exterior trim on vessels.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics to execute precise work.
Select appropriate materials, adhesives, and fasteners for marine applications.
Utilize planers, saws, routers, and other woodworking tools safely and effectively.
Ensure compliance with all safety guidelines, including shipyard and confined-space protocols.
Work in various environments, including confined spaces, heights, and outdoor conditions.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored.
Communicate effectively with team members, clients and subcontractors to meet project deadlines.
Be flexible with working hours, including potential overtime, to support project timelines.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Marine Carpenter or in a related field.
Strong repair skills and proficiency in woodworking tools and techniques.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and marine safety standards.
Comfortable working in confined spaces and adjusting to varying environmental conditions.
