Junior High/High School Media Production/Business Teacher

 

Qualifications:  The Junior High/High School Media Production & Business Teacher must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and possess, or be eligible for, a valid Nebraska professional teaching certificate or provisional certification in one of the following endorsement areas: Art, Business, Journalism, Communication Arts, or Information Technology (including IT-CE).

 

Length of Contract:  Will follow the length of service as outlined in the Negotiated Agreement–184 Days.

 

Immediate Supervisor:  The Junior High/High School Media Production/Business Teacher reports directly to the building Principal.  

 

General Job Description:  The Junior High/High School Media Production & Business Teacher will develop and deliver coursework in digital media, graphic design, broadcasting, digital scoreboard operations (e.g., Daktronics), and personal finance. The role includes teaching introductory, foundational courses that support student skill-building and allow the program to grow into advanced career pathways over time.

Primary responsibilities include designing engaging lessons, assessing student learning through projects, assignments, and exams, and maintaining accurate student records. The teacher will remain current on industry and technology trends, integrate relevant digital tools and production skills, and provide academic support to students.

This role may also involve supporting or supervising extracurricular activities related to media production, broadcasting, or business programs, including live event coverage, game-day production, and related student organizations.

Specific Job Functions:  Junior High/High School Media Production/Business Teacher:  

 

  1. Develop and implement assigned curriculum plans, and provide written evidence of the preparation required, aligned with state standards.  
  2. Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences through differentiation.  
  3. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students, in accordance with Individual Education Plans.
  4. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessments.
  5. Take all necessary and reasonable steps to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.
  6. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and administrators.
  7. Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to the board policies, regulations, and IEP.
  8. Participate in the district staff development program, attend and participate in faculty meetings, and serve on committees as required.
  9. Be an active member of the science department who contributes to the professional learning community.  
  10. Demonstrate professional, ethical, and reasonable behavior at all times.
  11. Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  12. Other duties as assigned by the principal and administrative staff.
