What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control position at Platte River Concrete Co.?
BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for testing, inspecting and monitoring orders on job-sites and yard. Communicating those results to Dispatch and/or Sales Department(s) to ensure that operations and projects are completed to customer’s specifications in a professional, timely, safe and cost effective manner. Also responsible for lab work – including but not limited to; aggregate gradations, aggregate moisture, testing of concrete compressive strength. Then entering the results into the database.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED with 6 months-1-year working experience in quality control. Willing to train the right individual who is motivated and a self-starter. Previous experience with communication, organization, and time management skills preferred. Proven ability to operate company phone lines in a professional and courteous manner, and to operate office (computer, fax, and copier) and field equipment conducive to performing job responsibilities, conforming to company personnel and safety procedures and policies. Physical and mechanical stamina to complete the following frequency of tasks:
- Lift up to 100 lbs. Utilizing safe and proper lifting techniques and equipment.
- Safely climb up and down plant stairs, trucks, and ladders 1-2 hrs. a day.
- Ability to sit, stand and walk 8-12 hours a day.
- Ability to reach and bend at the knees 20-40 times a day utilizing proper ergonomic principles (lifting, stretching, reaching, kneeling, pivoting feet, etc.)
- Work well under pressure meeting client/project schedules and budget guidelines, 10-12 hrs. a day, with a varied start time each day.
- Be flexible and available to work days, nights, weekend and required overtime during the peak season and upon request.
- Endure climatic temperature extremes, 10-12 hrs. a day.
- Operate properly, safely and professionally office/lab equipment, 10-12 hrs. a day.
- Must have the ability to operate a company pick up in a safe manner.
- Must be able to work independently with little or no direct supervision
- Must be able to multitask and possess good problem solving skills.
- Must be flexible and respond to change with a positive attitude.
- Must be self-motivated, have a positive attitude and the ability to work well and communicate clearly and effectively with others.
- Ability to pass ACI personnel certification exams (ACI, IDOT, NDOT) within one year of employment.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude towards all team members and customers.
- Must have a current driver’s license and good driving record. Must maintain that record while employed.
- Computer skills to monitor, enter, and maintain QC software for database.
- Must have reliable transportation to work, it is an essential function of your job to be present and on time each day.
Quality Control must understand the importance of wearing PPE as required and set forth in the company’s injury prevention program.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment must meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements. Approval of pre-employment reference check, skill assessment testing, MVR (motor vehicle report), and approval of post-offer drug/alcohol and medical evaluations are conditions of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide telephone and personal service to clients, contractors/customers conforming to Consolidated Concrete quality, safety and professional (punctuality, reliability, language, personal hygiene, clothing, etc.) standards. Promote and apply company work ethics, quality and personnel/safety policies.
- Abide by all job site safety rules and make sure all employees on the job site are conforming to the same job site rules and regulations. If someone does not comply with those rules – stop production immediately and make necessary adjustments for site to be safe and resume work. Report any deviations to dispatch (for production) and management immediately.
- Communicates with Sales / QC Coordinator on issues affecting concrete industry, personnel, safety, equipment maintenance, upcoming projects, customer compliments/concerns, on site test results, service deficiencies, and competition.
- Accurately performs aggregate, admixture, cement, and associated products testing including; gradations, specific gravities, moisture's, concrete compressive strengths, etc.
- Performs control tests on new mix designs and concrete materials in the plastic and hardened concrete state including slump, air content, temperature, unit weight, yield calculations, moisture and gradation of aggregates, specific gravities and cast/break strength specimens.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with state and local testing labs, existing and new customers.
- Assist management in completing paperwork (purchase orders, time-cards, fuel receipts, admix usage reports, etc.) in a timely and accurate manner, and that it complies with company and legal standards.
- Compiling, recording and evaluating statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products. Reporting to management any deviation in those results in a timely manner.
- Direct any federal or state inquiries (OSHA, LB 757, Department of Labor, etc.) to Management for consultation and direction.
- Attend company sponsored training events, including certification, licensing and/ or education requirements targeted for continuing growth and development.
- Personally adhere to, and be an example by adhering to the company’s Injury Prevention Program. Become proficient in all areas of customer service and safety to include, accident injury reporting and documentation, defensive driving, vehicle/equipment maintenance, technical/computer/phone operation, lockout tagout, Hazcom (SDS), emergency exit, personal protective equipment, lifting, confined space, tool safety….
- Attend required meetings with management, dispatching, and field/plant personnel for the purpose of recapping production, planning organizing current and future production, and work-site personnel/safety policies and procedures.
- Responsible for vehicles, equipment, tools and supplies as follows:
- Be responsible for assigned company tools and equipment, and maintain appropriate inventory according to company policy and procedures.
- Assist Management in coordinating with field/plant/office personnel required cleaning and maintenance of all QC vehicles, equipment and tools according to company instruction, approval and policy to ensure that all vehicles, equipment and tools are in safe working condition.
- Acquire the supplies needed through Sales Coordinator to perform your job promptly, accurately, safely and professional.
- Report any safety concerns or potential liabilities (unresolved project, personnel issues to include disciplinary concerns, production, maintenance, supplies, client contractor/customer, OSHA, LB 757 inspections…) to Management for consultation and direction.
- Report to Sales / QC Coordinator any deviation from scheduling/budgeting guidelines or personnel concerns that may become potential liabilities.
- Respect the authority of Management.
