Job Description
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is hiring a dedicated School Resource Deputy (SRD) to serve within Platte County schools. This position is ideal for an experienced law enforcement officer who values community policing, youth engagement, and proactive school safety. The SRD works closely with school administrators, students, parents, and partner agencies to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
· Serve as the primary law enforcement officer assigned to school campuses.
· Coordinate law enforcement actions on school grounds with school administrators.
· Assist local and state law enforcement agencies with interviews, interrogations, and arrests of students on school property.
· Develop and implement strategies to prevent or reduce dangerous situations.
· Support the district’s Safe School Climate Plan.
· Provide crime prevention and safety presentations to students and staff.
· Act as a resource for delinquency prevention and youth services.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Sheriff or designee.
Qualifications
· POST-certified sworn law enforcement officer in good standing.
· Minimum of three (3) years of law enforcement experience.
· Knowledge of juvenile laws and juvenile court procedures.
· Strong communication, writing, teaching, and organizational skills.
· Effective conflict resolution and de-escalation abilities.
Required Training
· Completion of an approved School Resource Officer (SRO) course.
· Completion of D.A.R.E. training.
· Familiarity with the district’s Safe School Climate Plan.
· Completion of annual POST-compliant training in school violence, prevention, and conflict resolution.
