Duties
- Receive and prioritize emergency calls using multi-line phone systems, ensuring accurate and efficient data entry into computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software
- Provide clear, concise instructions via phone triage for medical emergencies, including basic life support (BLS), CPR, first aid, and emergency medical dispatch protocols
- Utilize GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools to determine precise incident locations and coordinate appropriate response units
- Communicate effectively with law enforcement, fire services, EMS, and other first responders through radio communication systems and telephony
- Manage police dispatch procedures by coordinating patrol units, updating incident statuses, and maintaining detailed logs of all communications
- Apply analysis skills to assess situations quickly, negotiate with distressed callers when necessary, and manage conflict or high-stress scenarios professionally
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information while performing data entry, transcription, and report writing tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
Experience
- Prior experience in emergency communication centers or dispatching roles is highly preferred, especially with EMD experience or law enforcement background
- Familiarity with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software and radio communication systems is essential for effective job performance
- Knowledge of basic life support (BLS), CPR certification, and emergency medical dispatch protocols is a strong advantage
- Demonstrated ability to handle multi-line phone systems efficiently while maintaining excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure, negotiate effectively, and manage conflict resolution in high-stakes situations
- Technical proficiency in GPS, GIS mapping tools, typing speed, telephony systems, data entry accuracy, and security protocols is required for success in this role
