Applications are now open for the appointment of the Platte County Public Defender. The selected candidate’s term will begin in January 2027.

Position Overview:

  • The Public Defender must be an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Nebraska.
  • Prior jury trial experience is strongly preferred for this role.
  • This is a full-time position overseeing two Deputy Public Defenders and two legal support staff.
  • The Public Defender is responsible for preparing the office’s annual budget for approval by the Platte County Board of Supervisors.
  • The office represents indigent clients in misdemeanor and felony cases, child support enforcement and establishment matters, mental health board proceedings, and certain juvenile court cases.

Compensation:

Contract terms and compensation will be determined upon approval by the Platte County Board of Supervisors; compensation will in part be determined commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
