Position Overview:
As a Part-Time Staff Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity of our retail cannabis clients. You will focus on accounts payable, bank reconciliations, process standardization, and maintaining the general ledger. We are looking for someone who is not only adaptable but also a change agent, willing to implement improvements and drive efficiency in our finance and accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable:
- Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payments for multiple retail cannabis clients.
- Maintain accurate records of accounts payable transactions and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
Bank Reconciliations:
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations to confirm the accuracy of financial records for cannabis retail operations.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies between bank statements and the general ledger.
Process Standardization:
- Develop and implement standardized accounting processes under advisory of Director of Financial Operations, tailored to the unique needs of the cannabis retail sector.
- Identify areas for improvement and act as a change agent to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations.
General Ledger Maintenance:
- Maintain and update the general ledger with precise financial data.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely reporting.
Reporting:
- Prepare financial reports for management review and assist in audit preparations.
- Collaborate with the team to provide insights that drive better financial decision-making for clients.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
- 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the cannabis, retail, or CPG sector.
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable and general ledger functions.
- Working knowledge of New York state tax and labor laws a plus
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience building models and complex formulas.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero)
- Experience working in Gusto, Alleaves (or other cannabis point of sale), Microsoft PowerBI is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and a proactive mindset.
