What are the responsibilities and job description for the Catering Event Management Assistant position at Plate & Platter: Special Event Catering?
Our fast-growing family owned catering business is looking for a dedicated individual to work with us to continue our growth and scale our operations. The right candidate will have a passion for the hospitality & event industry, a willingness to work a flexible schedule, and be self-motivated to complete tasks independently. Creativity and initiative are a plus.
Catering Operations
- Assist with food preparation and kitchen setup as needed for events and daily operations
- Manage and coordinate weddings and large events during the week-of: packing list, van scheduling, and other logistics.
- Support the sales process by responding to client inquiries
- Lead wedding set ups on the day before and morning of (transporting equipment, set up of event space, breakdown of event space)
- Be the Team Lead at weddings when needed (manage serving staff). Provide excellent guest services and uphold quality of team and service while overseeing event timeline and communicating effectively with clients, venue staff, and team members.
- Clean and organize workspace after event, and lead all post-event and pre-event tasks during the days between events
Management & Operations
- Assist in day-to-day operational management and team coordination
- Help develop and maintain systems and processes to improve efficiency
- Take initiative in identifying and solving operational challenges
- Develop and manage our social media presence across platforms
- Conceptualize, film, and edit engaging short-form video content (TikToks, Reels, etc.)
- Use the provided DSLR camera to capture high-quality photos and videos at events and in the kitchen
- Build and execute a content calendar to grow our audience and brand awareness
This is a part-time position in which most hours worked will be on Thursdays-Sundays. Weekday hours will also be required, but will not be the majority. Most weddings occur on Saturday evenings and thus are 8-12 hour workdays, occasionally ending as late as midnight. During peak wedding season, work weeks will be between 25-40 hours, and during the off-season, work weeks will be 10-25 hours. The right candidate will be prepared to work this nontraditional schedule.
-Candidates should be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
Experience:
- Previous experience in events management or hospitality is preferred
- Knowledge of catering and banquet operations is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
-Excels at working independently
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask effectively
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
