What are the responsibilities and job description for the Battery Modelling Engineer position at Plasma International?
We are searching for an exceptional Battery Modeling Expert capable of building a complete, high-fidelity predictive battery modelling platform from the ground up. This is not a role for someone who has only contributed to an existing tool or supported a wider modelling team. We need someone who can take full technical ownership and independently create the complete solution.
The academic bar is extremely high.
We are particularly interested in candidates educated at a world-leading university such as MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Princeton or a similarly prestigious institution. A GPA of 4.0/4.0 would be ideal, with approximately 3.75 or above strongly preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate exceptional academic performance alongside outstanding technical capability.
This person will independently:
- Select and integrate the best available open-source modelling tools
- Build physics-based battery models from the ground up
- Develop parameterisation, optimisation and validation workflows
- Turn complex electrochemical data into accurate performance predictions
- Create robust, scalable modelling software using Python
- Challenge the limitations of existing battery simulation platforms
You may be completing a PhD or already have 5–10 years of industry experience. Job title and seniority are not important. Exceptional technical ability is.
We are particularly interested in experience involving:
- P2D/DFN, SPMe, SPM or equivalent electrochemical models
- PyBaMM or comparable open-source modelling frameworks
- Cell parameter extraction and model validation
- Electrochemical, thermal and degradation modelling
- Python-based scientific software development
- Battery lifetime or performance prediction
- Machine learning, AI or hybrid physics/AI models
- Automated data pipelines, optimisation or cloud-based modelling
You will need a deep understanding of battery electrochemistry alongside the software skills to turn that knowledge into a functioning predictive platform.
This is a standalone role. There will not be a large modelling team around you, so we need someone capable of setting the technical direction, solving difficult problems independently and delivering the complete solution.
The academic and technical bar is extremely high. We are looking for evidence of exceptional performance through advanced research, publications, software development or significant industrial achievements.
