Job Goal

The Plaquemines Parish School District is seeking a detail-oriented and hardworking Student Intern | Warehouse to assist with the day-to-day operations of the district’s warehouse.  This position offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in warehouse management, inventory control and logistics. The intern will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of warehouse functions, which directly support the needs of the district's schools.

 

Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills and/or experience)

Required

 

  • Currently enrolled in a Plaquemines Parish School Board  high school with the class designation of junior or senior.

 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes and materials (must be able to lift up to fifty [50] pounds).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new tasks and challenges.
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.

Preferred

 

  • Basic knowledge of inventory management and warehouse operations.
  • Basic computer skills. 
  • Previous experience or coursework in logistics, inventory control or warehouse operations.
  • A willingness to learn and develop skills in warehouse management and logistics.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in receiving, sorting and organizing school supplies, equipment and materials in the warehouse.
  • Supports the process of packing and preparing orders for delivery to district schools.
  • Helps maintain accurate inventory records and assists with regular stock audits to ensure inventory levels are correct.
  • Aids with the loading and unloading of deliveries, ensuring items are handled properly and stored safely.
  • Helps with labeling and tagging inventory items, ensuring all items are identified and stored in the correct locations.
  • Supports the Logistics Clerk in organizing and maintaining the warehouse space to maximize efficiency and safety.
  • Assists with preparing shipping and delivery documentation for outgoing materials and supplies.
  • Helps track and manage warehouse tools and equipment, ensuring they are properly maintained.
  • Provides general assistance with warehouse-related projects as needed, including occasional cleaning and organization tasks.
  • Assists in the delivery of materials to schools or district offices when required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or his/her designee.

  • Develops skills in receiving, inspecting and sorting deliveries to ensure accurate inventory records.
  • Learns the basics of supply chain management and the logistical processes that support school operations.
  • Understands the importance of safety and organization in a warehouse environment.
  • Improves communication skills by collaborating with staff, helping to coordinate the delivery of materials to district schools.
  • Discovers how to track, manage and maintain inventory systems, including data entry and reporting.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role primarily operates in an indoor, climate-controlled environment, with occasional exposure to moderate temperature variations. The usual methods of performing job functions require lifting (up to fifty [50] pounds), carrying, pushing and pulling, with frequent engagement in activities such as standing, walking and sitting. Additional physical requirements include extended use of a computer for data analysis, report generation, communication and administrative duties; alternating between sitting and standing for meetings, presentations and other administrative activities; ability to drive within or outside of the district to various schools, meetings and events; and occasional travel outside the district for conferences, site visits or professional development.
