Job Summary
Plants & Animals (Burien Press, Moonshot Coffee, Fable All Day, and Seasmith) is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic baker to join our food services team in Burien, WA.
Our kitchen team operates out of a commissary kitchen in Burien on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, with the opportunity to join in a part-time to nearly full-time (24-36hrs/wk) capacity. This shift is typically from 10a-6p but may flex to an earlier start time. Pay is inclusive of tips and reflective of the potential range as a result.
All members of our team have a direct impact on our program’s success, from organizing deliveries to different cafes to preparing the delicious items we have on offer at our various spots.
All Production Kitchen team members cross-train across preparation tasks and are trained on prep, baking, cooking, assembly, and packaging. Experience is a plus, and training is provided.

General Accountabilities
As a Production Baker, you will play a crucial role in supporting kitchen operations by assisting in pastry preparation and ensuring a smooth workflow in the food services department.

- Assist in food preparation tasks under the guidance of the kitchen staff
- Follow recipes and help with cooking duties as needed
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
- Handle and store food items properly and in accordance with food safety procedures
- Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, knives, slicers, mixers, blenders, and food processors
- Collaborate with all team members to ensure smooth, efficient workflow
Specific Duties
- Perform service tasks during scheduled shifts (Estimated 24-36 hours per week): prepare dishes, including measuring, mixing, washing, chopping, baking, slicing, cooking, and sorting ingredients, follow production plans, coordinate receipt of product, reset kitchen and/or restaurant including setup and breakdown of stations and space, dish washing, taking out trash/recycle/compost, and sweeping/mopping.
- Communicate location inventory needs.
- Maintain high standards of sanitation and organization.
- Maintain high sense of urgency and efficiency of production with the ability to competently execute the preparation/production of multiple dishes simultaneously.
- Ensure clean, welcoming, and complete kitchen environment.
- Participate in the proper adherence to food safety standards, proper food handling and storage, and record keeping.
- Ensure safety of cafe and kitchen environment.
- Participate in plans to elevate product quality and guest experience, as well as minimize waste and reduce costs.
- Commitment to participating in financial goals of company including evaluating systems for increasing efficiency and profitability of the program.
- Participate in fulfillment of tasks within a team, requiring strong communication and collaboration towards shared goals.
- Participate in scheduled preventative maintenance on all equipment, and ensure that all equipment is in proper working order.
Experience
- Previous experience in a food service or culinary environment is beneficial
- Knowledge of basic food handling and preparation techniques; Food Handler's Permit required within 14 days of employment.
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and utensils
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with changing tasks and priorities
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn and grow
