What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Bus Diesel Mechanic position at PLANT TRANSIT, Inc.?
Immediate opening for a diesel school bus mechanic, on a current project in Austin. Position would be for an 8:30am-4:30pm shift time, Mondays to Fridays, with some overtime provided. Applicants must have current certifications and own tools. Company vehicle provided.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in diesel engine technology, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED required; technical school training and ASE certification are highly preferred.
- Experience: Generally 3-5 years of experience. Preference given to candidates with school bus experience.
- Licensure: Valid driver’s license; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B is often required for road testing.
- Physical Strength: Ability to lift heavy parts and tools
Core Responsibilities
- Diagnostics & Repair: Utilize computer diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot issues in engines, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical components.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations to ensure vehicle longevity.
- Vehicle Inspection: Conduct safety inspections and test-drive vehicles to confirm repairs.
Must live within 30 minutes of the job site
Once hired, candidates will have to undergo:
- DISA drug/alcohol screening
- DISA background check
