Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic and Cerner.
- Administer medications via IV infusion, injections, and other routes while adhering to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Provide specialized care in areas such as critical care, emergency medicine, cardiology (including catheterization), ophthalmology, geriatrics, pediatrics, neonatal resuscitation procedures, hospice & palliative medicine, and behavioral health.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations including specimen collection/processing, laboratory testing, and imaging procedures like sonography or mammography.
- Manage acute pain and trauma cases utilizing trauma medicine principles at Level I & II trauma centers or emergency rooms with Level I Trauma Center experience.
- Assist with complex procedures such as suturing, ostomy care, gastric lavage, spinal taps, or ventilator management.
- Coordinate discharge planning and case management to ensure seamless patient transitions across inpatient, outpatient, home care, or long-term care settings.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and ICD coding standards (ICD-9/10).
- Support infection control practices and participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards.
Skills
- Proven experience working with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks; proficiency in medical documentation is essential.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
- Expertise in various nursing specialties including ICU experience, telemetry monitoring, dialysis support, trauma medicine, infectious disease care, and occupational health.
- Skilled in IV insertion, phlebotomy, catheter care (including urinary catheters), tube feeding management and aseptic technique adherence.
- Ability to perform physical examinations and patient assessments accurately across diverse populations including pediatrics and geriatrics.
- Excellent critical thinking skills for triage decisions and urgent care interventions; experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays is preferred.
- Familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding for procedures and documentation standards for medical records management.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in hospital medicine or outpatient clinics.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and neonatal resuscitation procedures; experience in neonatal ventilator management is a plus.
